Effective 21 October 2026 · Last updated 21 October 2026
The short version. Burvy is built so that your people stay yours. The birthdays, notes, photos and gift ideas you add are stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud account. We don’t run servers that hold your data, we don’t show ads, we don’t use third-party analytics or tracking, and we never sell or share your information.
1. Who we are
Burvy (“Burvy”, “we”, “us”) is an iPhone app for remembering birthdays, published by Grey Studios. This policy explains what information the Burvy app and this website handle, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the Burvy iOS app, its Home Screen widgets, and this website.
2. Information we collect and where it lives
Burvy is designed to work without sending your personal information to us. The table below lists everything the app handles.
| Data | What it is | Where it’s stored |
|---|---|---|
| People you add | Names, birthdays (day, month and optionally year), relationship tags, notes | On your device; your private iCloud if sync is on |
| Photos | Only the photos you choose for a person | On your device; your private iCloud if sync is on |
| Gift ideas & spending | Gift ideas, prices, what you marked as bought, your chosen currency | On your device; your private iCloud if sync is on |
| Message drafts | Birthday messages you draft and edit in the app | On your device |
| Preferences | Reminder lead times and hours, appearance, accent colour, widget settings | On your device; your private iCloud if sync is on |
| Optional sign-in | If you choose to sign in, an account identifier and the name and email you agree to share | Your private iCloud / the sign-in provider |
iCloud sync
If you are signed in to iCloud on your device, Burvy uses Apple’s CloudKit to store a copy of your data in the private database of your own iCloud account so your devices stay in step. Data in your private iCloud database is accessible only to you; we cannot see it. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect your location, browsing history, contacts list, health data or financial account information.
- We do not collect advertising identifiers.
- We do not include third-party analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs in the app.
Crash reports
If you have chosen in iOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may provide us with anonymous crash reports and performance data through App Store Connect. These do not identify you, and you can turn this off at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
3. Device permissions
Burvy only asks for a permission when you use the feature that needs it. You can change any of these at any time in the iOS Settings app.
- Contacts — used only when you choose to import. Burvy reads names and birthdays, shows you the list to review, and saves only the people you confirm. Your contacts are never uploaded to us.
- Notifications — used to deliver birthday reminders. Reminders are scheduled locally on your device.
- Photos — when you add a photo, Burvy uses the system photo picker, which gives the app access only to the photos you select.
4. How we use information
Information you add is used solely to provide Burvy’s features on your devices: showing upcoming birthdays, sending reminders, highlighting milestones, drafting messages, tracking gift ideas and spending, showing your statistics, and powering the Home Screen widget. If you contact us, we use your name, email address and message only to reply and help you.
5. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- Apple. Your iCloud data is stored by Apple under your iCloud account and Apple’s privacy terms. Optional sign-in and crash reporting are also provided by Apple.
- When you share. Burvy never sends messages on your behalf. When you tap share, iOS opens the share sheet and you choose what is sent and to whom.
- Support. Messages sent through our contact form are delivered to our support email inbox using a form delivery service, solely to get your message to us.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law. Because your app data is stored on your device and in your own iCloud account, we generally have no app data to disclose.
Any service provider that processes data for us is required to protect it in line with this policy and applicable law.
6. Tracking
Burvy does not track you. We do not link data from the app with data from other companies’ apps, websites or offline properties for advertising or measurement, and we do not share data with data brokers. Because of this, Burvy does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission. This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies.
7. Data retention and deletion
Your data stays until you delete it. You are always in control:
- Delete a person — remove anyone from their profile in the app.
- Export everything — export your data from Burvy’s settings at any time.
- Delete everything — use the delete-all-data option in Burvy’s settings to erase your data from the device and from your iCloud.
- Delete your account — if you signed in, you can delete your account from within the app. You can also stop using Sign in with Apple for Burvy in Settings › [your name] › Sign-In & Security.
- iCloud — you can remove Burvy’s iCloud data in Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage.
- Uninstall — deleting the app removes its data from that device.
Support emails are kept only as long as needed to resolve your request and for reasonable record-keeping, then deleted. You can ask us to delete your correspondence at any time.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live — including under the EU/UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) — you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. Because Burvy keeps your app data on your device and in your own iCloud, you can exercise most of these rights directly in the app. For anything else, contact us and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
9. Security
Your data is protected by your device’s built-in security, including encryption when your device is locked, and by Apple’s iCloud security when synced. No method of storage is perfectly secure, but keeping data on your device and in your own account means there is no central Burvy database to breach.
10. Children’s privacy
Burvy is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app or on this website before they take effect.
